Dear Pastor, Teacher, Evangelist, Prophet, or Apostle:
Throughout scripture, God has commanded that His spoken word, or Rhema, be written down to record it (Jeremiah 30:2, Revelation 1:11, Habakkuk 2:2, and Isaiah 30:8 are referenced below). For many centuries, this command was obeyed: first on tablets or scrolls and then in books. The obedience of this command by the prophets and apostles has given us the Bible, the Logos word of God.
Then, in 1877, Thomas Edison invented the phonograph to record sound and voices. Although it’s been less than 150 years since Mr. Edison’s invention of the phonograph, many different ways of recording sound and voices have been developed and are still being developed. Unfortunately, many of these have already become, or will eventually become, obsolete.
However, our Omniscient Lord did not command Rhema to be recorded audibly using technology that would become obsolete. His command was “Write thee…” The recording of Rhema as written word allows us to “send it”… “that he may run that readeth it”…”that it may be for the time to come for ever and ever.”
